Message from Shirley Zouboules, Superintendent
As Superintendent, I am pleased to welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year at Yellowknife District No. 1. Our team is dedicated to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported. We believe that education is a journey of discovery and growth, and we are here to make that journey as enriching as possible. Learning is at the heart of what we do. Our goal is to help students become capable people. As learners, child or adult, we each have unique gifts and talents and through rigorous and authentic learning opportunities, we can thrive. We are proud to embrace the rich history of where we live in our curriculum. Our schools provide opportunities for students to learn about and respect Indigenous traditions, languages, and histories. By fostering understanding and appreciation, we aim to build bridges and create a more inclusive community for all. We believe in the power of the great outdoors to inspire curiosity and foster a love for learning. Our outdoor learning programs provide hands-on experiences that connect students with nature and encourage exploration. Students benefit from spending time with Elders and knowledge keepers all while learning about the diverse community and territory we are all fortunate to enjoy. Our schools are places where everyone belongs. We strive to create welcoming spaces that celebrate diversity and promote kindness. Our teachers and staff work hard to ensure that each student feels seen, heard, and valued. We encourage open communication and collaboration with families to support our students' growth and success. Thank you for being a part of our vibrant school community. Together, let's make this year one that is full of discovery, learning, and joy. If you ever have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
